Don Shelton

Chair of the Jordan River Commission and Board Representative, Jordan River Commission

Don Shelton is serving his third term as a South Jordan City Council Member, having taken office January 7, 2014. He currently serves on the City’s Audit and Senior Advisory Committees and on regional boards including Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC), Utah League of Cities and Towns Legislative Policy Committee, and the Jordan River Commission.

Don recently retired as an independent financial advisor and the founder of The Oquirrh Wealth Advisors, a private wealth advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Service, Inc. He practiced personal financial planning for more than 25 years. Don served as the President of the Utah Financial Planning Association and several years as a chairman of the group.
Don has bachelor’s degree in business administration and holds a Certified Financial Planner designation. Don served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tampa, Florida.

Don and his family have resided in South Jordan for 22 years, where they raised their family. Don and his wife love spending time with family, especially with their grandchildren. Don loves the outdoor recreation opportunities available here in our great State of Utah. He and his wife enjoy downhill skiing, water skiing, golf, fly fishing, hiking, and camping. Don also runs in the SoJo Race Series, has completed three marathons and RAGNAR relays, and has competed in a number of sprint triathlons.
