Swimming can be a popular activity on the southern most section of the Jordan River in Utah County.  Just like with any water activities, make sure you are prepared and follow safety guidelines.  Knowing when and where to swim, and what to bring is going to help you have a great experience. Water quality is probably the most important consideration when swimming in natural bodies of water.   Make sure to check the Jordan River Recreational Water Monitoring reports (see Resources) before swimming.

  • Be Aware of Water Quality: Check the Jordan River Recreational Water Monitoring reports (see Resources) before swimming, especially after heavy rains, as runoff can temporarily increase bacteria levels. If water quality is poor, choose another activity.
  • Never Swim Alone: Always swim with a buddy, or make sure someone knows your specific swimming location and expected return time.
  • Wear a Life Jacket: Not only is it the law, it will keep you safe!
  • Avoid Debris and Swift Currents: Do not swim near large debris piles or where the current is visibly swift or turbulent. The river’s flow rate can change unexpectedly, especially in spring.
  • Respect Private Property and Wildlife: Only access the river from public parks or designated areas. Maintain a safe distance from any wildlife.
  • Don’t jump off bridges:  It is dangerous and illegal.
