Disc golf combines the skills of throwing great distances with accuracy.  Even though the sport was invented in the 1960’s it didn’t gain popularity until the 2000’s. There are two disc golf courses located along the Jordan River.  Roots Disc Golf is located in Salt Lake City, next to the Rose Park Golf Course and was created in 2014.  The River Bottoms Golf Course was built in 2024 and is located in Draper City, near the Jordan River Rotary Park.

  • Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Always be aware of other players, pedestrians, and any potential obstacles on the course.
  • Throw When Clear: Do not throw your disc until the landing area is clear of people and other hazards.
  • Stay on the Course: Follow designated paths and avoid walking through sensitive natural areas.
  • Respect Other Players: Be mindful of others’ games, avoid talking loudly during throws, and keep distractions to a minimum.
  • Pick Up Your Trash: Pack out everything you pack in. Do not litter on the course.
  • Maintain Your Disc: Ensure your disc is in good condition to avoid unpredictable flights that could endanger others.
  • Call Your Shot: If there’s a chance your disc might hit someone, yell “FORE!” loudly to warn them.
  • Do Not Move Obstacles: Do not move natural obstacles on the course. Play the course as you find it.
  • Share the Course: Be courteous and allow faster groups to play through if you are moving slowly.

Are the disc golf courses along the Jordan River free to play?

Yes, both the Roots Disc Golf Course and the River Bottoms Disc Golf Course are public courses and are generally free to access and play during park hours.

How many holes are on each of the disc golf courses?

The Roots Disc Golf Course and the River Bottoms Disc Golf Course are both 18-hole courses.

Do I need special equipment to play disc golf?

While you can technically play with any flying disc, specialized disc golf discs (drivers, mid-ranges, and putters) are recommended for the best experience. These can be purchased at local sporting goods stores.

Are there any disc golf leagues or events hosted at the Jordan River courses?

Local leagues, tournaments, and events are frequently hosted by community groups or organizations like the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA). Check the resources section or local disc golf community websites for current event schedules and league information.
