The Jordan River is a great place to go bird watching and nature viewing right in the heart of our valley.  There are over 253 species of birds and animals that call the Jordan River home.  Grab your binoculars, ID book or phone app, and notebook and get out there and start making observations.  While there isn’t a bad spot on the river to start, we recommend to first timers to check out Tracy Aviary’s Nature Center at Pia Okwai (did you know that is an indigenous name for the River?).  They regularly host birding events and can help you get started.  Great Salt Lake Audubon Society hosts monthly field trips to the River.  Want more than just birds?  Try using the iNaturalist App to make your own observations, or join us in the spring for the City Nature Challenge!

Don’t block the trail: Keep to the side of the trail to keep out of the way of active trail users.  Be aware of others and your surroundings to avoid collisions.

Respect Wildlife: Maintain a safe distance from any wildlife encountered. Do not feed animals.  Do not let your dog chase after wildlife.

Keep dogs on leash: Not only does it keep your dog and others safe, it is against the law!  There are a handful of dog parks along the river, check out the Jordan River Map to see where they are located.

Keep dogs out of the river: For the health and safety of your dog and others, it is best to keep them out.

Pack It In, Pack It Out: Do not litter. Dispose of all trash in designated receptacles or take it with you.  Better yet, if you see litter, help us out by picking it up!  Make your own clean up kit and keep it with you when you are out, so you have somewhere to put that trash!

Leave no Trace:  Take only pictures, leave only footprints.
