Started in 2016 as a competition between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the City Nature Challenge (CNC) has grown into an international event, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife and plants in their own cities. The CNC is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly competition to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal using the app iNaturalist. The CNC creates a massive contribution to a global biodiversity database which aids scientists in their research. Read about some of the scientific papers that have come from the CNC here.
The Jordan River Commission offers supported events all four days of the challenge at different locations along the Jordan River. If you aren’t familiar with the app, iNaturalist, we can teach you how to use it!
If you can’t make it to one of our events, you can still participate in the City Nature Challenge on your own! Learn more HERE.
