The Jordan River Parkway is more than just a trail; it’s a linear oasis, and the numerous parks that dot its course act like brilliant jewels strung along an emerald necklace. These green spaces are foundational to the Parkway experience, offering perfect launch points for any adventure, whether you are looking for structured play at a playground or sports fields for the kids, or a place to have a picnic, there are plenty of options along the Jordan River Parkway.  They are also a great spot to rest and refuel when you are out walking, biking, or using the trail.

Park Amenities:

Make sure to check out each park for a complete list of amenities and activities available.

Structured Play and Fun: For families with children, the playgrounds along the Parkway are major draws. These areas often feature modern, safe equipment for structured play, allowing kids to burn off energy, climb, slide, and socialize in a beautiful natural setting.

Picnic and Gathering Spaces: Many park sites provide essential amenities such as dedicated picnic areas. With tables, and often covered pavilions, these spaces are ideal for everything from a simple trailside lunch to larger family gatherings, birthday parties, or community events.

Open Green Fields: Beyond the structured play zones, you will find ample grassy fields. These open areas are perfect for unstructured recreation—a game of catch, flying a kite, tossing a frisbee, or simply finding a quiet spot to lay out a blanket and enjoy the sunshine and river atmosphere.

  • Respect Wildlife: Maintain a safe distance from any wildlife encountered. Do not feed animals.
  • Respect others: Be courteous of others using the parks and playgrounds.  Share the space and facilities.
  • Pack It In, Pack It Out: Do not litter. Dispose of all trash in designated receptacles or take it with you.  Better yet, if you see litter, help us out by picking it up!  Make your own clean up kit and keep it with you when you are out, so you have somewhere to put that trash!
  • Keep dogs on leash: Not only does it keep your dog and others safe, it is against the law!  There are a handful of dog parks, check out the FAQ’s below or search the map for dog parks.

Who manages the parks?

There isn’t a simple answer to this question (which is part of the reason why the Jordan River Commission exists!).  It is a mix of the cities and counties that manage and maintain the various facilities.  Information about who owns and manages the parks is included on each location page.  Check out parks below or the interactive trail map to learn more about each location.

Are there any dog parks along the Jordan River Parkway?

Yes there are!  Check out the dog park section to learn more.  Just remember to keep your pet on leash unless you are in a designated off-leash area.

Can I reserve a pavilion or picnic area in a park?

Yes, most parks along the Jordan River Parkway have pavilions or larger picnic areas that can be reserved for events and gatherings. Since the parks are managed by various cities and counties, you will need to contact the specific local jurisdiction (e.g., the city’s parks and recreation department) that manages the park you are interested in. The interactive trail map is the best resource for finding contact information.

Are there any All-Ability playgrounds?

[East River Front Park] in South Jordan and the newly opened [Glendale Regional Park] in Salt Lake City has an All Ability Playground.  Let us know if you know of others.  You can contact Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation Adaptive Recreation or your local municipality for more resources.

How far apart are parks along the trail?  Can I walk from one park to another?

Yes! This is a great way to explore the Jordan River Parkway and break up the trail into smaller sections. See if you can walk the entire parkway over the course of a year.  You can start with shorter walks around a mile or less and work your way up to longer sections.

  • Event Planning Guide (in production)
The Jordan River Commission has created an event resource guide to help you when planning your next event along the Jordan River.  See what facilities are available at each location and who you need to contact to make a reservation or get permits for your event.
